History

Why are we called The Star M Barn? The original brand of this ranch was a Star. This brand was documented through Montana Department of Livestock, and this piece of history is still burned into many places on the ranch; including the squeeze shoot pictured above. The Star livestock brand was first registered here on March 19, 1934 by George and Carl Stimson, and was depicted by a star brand on the left jaw of cattle or the left shoulder of a horse. Pairing the original Star Brand with the “M” for the Mellows family, The Star M Barn was born.

This timeless two-story barn was built around 1917 with a gothic arch roofline, which provides an expansive ceiling. The architecture and rustic ambiance of the barn make it the showpiece of the property—it was also featured in the book, Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana.

The stately metal cupolas, along with a 12 foot x 14 foot glass garage door, allow for expansion onto the deck to provide air circulation in the summer. The barn has a dedicated 300-Amp circuit installed and was recently upgraded to provide your event with the electricity and power necessary for your party, as well as a 220-Volt power hookup for a food truck/catering. The dry bar in the southwest corner of the loft provides your guests a convenient “watering hole".

The spacious loft (second floor) displays the beautiful craftsmanship of its time and can be used for ceremonies, dinner, receptions, or all of the above, providing roughly 2,200 square feet of useable space inside. The barn was recently updated to include the spacious deck (an additional 1,000 square feet), and large windows which offer guests exceptional views of the Bridger Mountain range to the East and the “Big Sky” that Montana is so well known for. The garage door, windows, and side doors on the second floor also offer ample natural light and a nice breeze.

All power on the property has been relocated underground to provide unobstructed views of the Bridger Mountains, Ross Peak, and the expansive western skies of Montana. In addition, high-end LED lighting has been installed to the entire interior and exterior of the barn, giving the space beautiful night-time ambience.

Enjoy this spectacular view of the Bridgers.
